Product Description
Gravity Gas Pump (1/48)
White metal kit. Product is unpainted.
Mfr.: Berkshire Valley #504
NOTE: This kit is not difficult, but does require patience. The following site glass assembly instructions have been provided to ease your build. Berkshire Valley did not create instructions and it took a number of times to figure it out. Let us know if you have suggestions or ideas to make it easier.
1) Clean flashing as required.
2) Use a 7-8 finger drill bit to bore holes in both top site glass mounts. Note, when drilling bottom mount, hold bit on angle towards center of plate to prevent hole blowing out through edge. Paint the ‘inside’ sides of both top and bottom plate and let dry; do not paint ‘outside’ sides. I find Tamiya latex gloss paints work best on white metal parts.
3) Cut stem on dome globe to 13/16″ long. Sand stem with 400 grit paper to polish.
4) Slide top site glass plate onto stem and secure with a small drop of Gel Super Glue. Make sure to double check orientation!
5) Mount dome upside down in vice (see image).
6) Cut Qty, 8 site glass protection bars to 19/32″ long from brass rod. Glue Qty. 4 in alternating holes using a small drop of Gel Super Glue and let dry solidly. Paint installed posts.
7) Glue remainining Qty. 4 bars in place and let dry solidly. Paint remaining posts.
8) Insert site glass over dome globe post. Slide bottom site glass mount over post and align to the protection bars; again make sure to double check orientation. Note, you may have to lightly redrill holes in plate if paint filled in them. Use a small pair of needle nose pliers to help align bars. Once on, softly press mounting plate down to secure site glass. Use CA and put glue on the post ends ‘outside’ the site glass assembly. Let dry solidly and trim ends of protection bars with diagonal cutters. I do not recommend using a rotary tool or file as it will loosen glue. The trim ends look like bolts from a distance anyhow. Paint exterior sides of site glass mounts.
9) The remaining assembly steps are intuitive.
